We stayed here for a few nights and i really liked it. I liked our little cottage and the rest of the grounds - everything was clean and nice. Great view of the Gulf and we were able to see a lot of cool things snorkeling right off the shore. No bar or restaurant on-site, but there are plenty down the road.

The La Jolla Resort is located at mile marker 82.2, on Upper Matecumbe Key, in Islamorada, the Florida Keys. About an hour and a half from Miami's International Airport, the scenic drive on the Overseas Highway allows for a "Keys" attitude adjustment, prior to the friendly check in.When entering the La Jolla, notice the lush, tropical vegetation including, seven varieties of palm trees, frangipani, bougainvillea, hibiscus, key limes, orchids and bromeliads, just to name a few.Also, our beach area features a grill, lounge chairs, a shuffleboard court, ceramic tables and benches, boat ramp, docks and a fishing pier.

With are gorgeous large pool with a zero beach entrance, with palms sweeping over the water, with ledges overlooking the ocean and all situated on a seven acre tropical island estate, guests enjoy plenty of space. The Resort is located is in the heart of the resort and hotel motel strip in Islamorada, within walking distance to a sea life park where you can swim with the dolphins, a state geological park, shopping, many fine restaurants, and live entertainment. At the Coconut Cove marina you have the finest in Florida Keys fishing, Ocean Quest diving, boat rentals, tours, kite skiing, waverunners, a full Water sports center and other activities at the concessions on site.

After reviewing several possible places to stay in Islamorada, it seemed this place offered more for the money and was nicer than many of the local motels. Fortunately, it really did . The property consists of about 8-10 condos on a private nicely landscaped lot which are privately owned. The condo itself had the living area, kitchen and half-bath with screened porch on the second floor and 2 bedrooms and baths on third floor. Each bedroom had a separate balcony and from there you can go to the roof for a spectacular view of the water. The condo was nicely furnished, had nice tile floors and baths and comfortable beds. The kitchen was very basic so if you plan to cook, bring a nice nonstick pan with you. Most of the pots were small and in poor shape.

We stayed at the Matecumbe Resort and I have to admit that I was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews. First off the photos on the website are not exactly objective. Throughout the Island there are million dollar homes with less than desirable neighbors; it's hard to control your neighbors. We stayed in unit 105 and had a sunrise every morning. We were also greeted by "George" the local bird who stood at our patio window. This is a fishing town and not much to do. But that is okay, Key West is only 75 miles south if you are looking for nightlife. I really liked staying here. We spent one day at Anne's Beach which was only 1 mile down the street. There were nice paths for walking and the Sunset from the bridge (not to mention the giant seaturtle and manate we saw)was better than the one we say in Key West. As for the hotel, the rooms were clean and the bathrooms looked as though they were recently remodeled. The bed and living room furniture were new. The decor was a little dated, but I wasn't there to stare at the pictures on the wall. The staff was pleasant and accomodating. It was a great trip.
